Course Description
Coxswain Grade 3 training courses with Maritime Safety Training make the process of getting your Coxswain licence not only easier than ever before, but also stress free. Our Coxswain Grade 3 training course is the easiest to achieve, giving you the ability to command and operate a commercial vessel in Australian inshore waters at a distance of up to 1 nautical mile from shore. The Coxswain Grade 3 provides the type of valuable experience that you will carry through the rest of your career. The Coxswain Grade 3 Near Coastal certification allows you to operate a vessel up to 12 metres in length that has a propulsion power limited to 100kW for an inboard engine and 250kW for an outboard engine. It is little more than a recreational boat licence with the advantage of being able to operate a commercial vessel.
Please note: Coxswain Grade 3 is a replacement for those who have already completed an Exemption 38
For those who completed the Exemption 38 course prior to the 1st Jan 2023, competence is still valid and you can continue to operate up to the 31st December 2023.

Career Opportunities
Examples of typical uses for a Coxswain Grade 3 include Oyster Farmers and Marina Operators. Passengers can only be carried in daylight hours (max 6, & carriage of passengers requires a valid first aid certificate, which Maritime Safety Training can facilitate).
