Course Overview

This unit is designed in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies; to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, and management of casualties, the incident, and other first aiders until qualified medical help arrives.

Course Content

Principles of First Aid: Introduction to the basic principles of first aid and its importance in emergency situations.
Assessment of the Situation: How to assess an emergency situation, ensuring safety for oneself, bystanders, and the injured person.
Basic Life Support (DRSABCD): Covering the steps of Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, CPR, and Defibrillation.
CPR Techniques: Hands-on training on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for adults, children, and infants.
Wound Care: Management of various wounds, including cuts, abrasions, and burns.
Fractures and Dislocations: Recognizing and providing first aid for fractures and dislocations.
Bites and Stings: First aid procedures for common Australian animal bites and stings.
Medical Conditions: Recognizing symptoms and providing first aid for conditions like asthma, anaphylaxis, seizures, and strokes.
Use of First Aid Equipment: Familiarization with common first aid equipment, including first aid kits and automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
