SFI20119 Certificate II in Aquaculture
This qualification reflects the role of students who work as aquaculture assistants to support the care of aquatic stock in the aquaculture sector of the seafood industry. In this role, students undertake a range of routine tasks such as handling, feeding and monitoring stock, and monitoring environmental conditions under the direction of a supervisor.
The environments in which students work include:
- aquaculture farms
- aquarium wholesalers and retailers
- hatcheries and nurseries
- live post-harvest holding facilities.
Training is carried out at the workplace.
All work is carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety, food safety, biosecurity and environmental regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.

SFI20319 Certificate II in Seafood Post Harvest Operations
This qualification reflects the role of students who work in the seafood processing or sales and distribution sectors of the seafood industry. In this role, students undertake routine tasks such as fish preparation, packaging, storage, retail and distribution under the direction of a supervisor.
The environments in which students work include:
- aquaculture farms or fishout/put-and-take operations
- contract harvesting and on-farm processing companies
- processing plants
- seafood wholesalers, fish markets or retailers.
Training is carried out at the workplace.
All work is carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety, food safety, biosecurity and environmental regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at present.

SFI30119 Certificate III in Aquaculture
This qualification reflects the role of students who work as aquaculture assistants or technicians for the care of aquatic stock in the aquaculture sector of the seafood industry. In this role, students have responsibilities for the handling of stock, and maintaining water quality and monitoring environmental conditions. They may perform dives or vessel operations as part of their role.
The environments in which students work include:
- aquaculture farms
- aquarium wholesalers and retailers
- hatcheries and nurseries
- live post-harvest holding facilities.
Training is carried out at the workplace.
All work is carried out to comply with workplace procedures, according to state/territory health and safety, food safety, biosecurity and environmental regulations, legislation and standards that apply to the workplace.
Some SFI and imported units in the elective bank are subject to licencing, legislative or certification requirements, including:
- occupational diving is regulated independently by each state and territory workplace health and safety authority. Users are advised to check with the relevant authority to confirm current requirements.
- the MAR units that appear in the elective bank are subject to licencing and regulatory requirements. These units must be implemented in line with the MAR Maritime Training Package and Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) requirements.
- the TLI licencing units must be implemented in line with the TLI Transport and Logistics Training Package.

This qualification reflects the role of students who work as leading process or sales workers in the seafood processing, sales and distribution sectors of the seafood industry. In this role, students have responsibilities in seafood preparation, packaging and storage. This may include retail and wholesale activities.
The environments in which students work may include:
- aquaculture farms
- contract harvesting and on-farm processing companies
- processing plants
- seafood wholesalers, fish markets or retailers.
Training is carried out at the workplace.

SFI40219 Certificate IV in Seafood Post Harvest Operations
This qualification reflects the role of students who work in the seafood processing and sales and distribution sectors of the seafood industry at the supervisory or managerial level. In this role, students are responsible for evaluating the quality of seafood to be processed or sold, and ensuring processing practices and systems meet quality and legislative requirements.
The environments in which students work include:
- aquaculture farms or fishout/put-and-take operations
- harvesting and on-farm processing companies
- wholesalers or retailers
- seafood processing plants.
Training is carried out at the workplace.
